Approfondimenti NINE OUT OF TEN ITALIANS DON’T WANT LIRA BACK ROME - Nine out of ten Italians don’t want the lira back according to a poll released on Saturday. Only 11% of 1,500 Italians polled by consumer group Adusbef blamed the euro for a steep rise in Italy’s cost of living. Some 40% said unscrupuluous retailers caused the inflation which has eaten away at salaries since the euro replaced the lira 2002. Another 24% said most of the blame lay in a failure to list prices in both lire and euros. A further 24% blamed government inaction. Many politicians have tried to pin the blame for price rises on the euro itself. The Northern League is pushing for a referendum to restore the lira.13/06/2005
